Mr. Rod Smith

I am excited to be part of the team at Shortridge High School. My educational philosophy is one that emphasizes self-efficacy and lifelong learning, both personally and professionally. Education is more than a means to an end: it is a lifelong endeavor. It is a lifetime commitment to better understand ourselves and the world we live in as we strive to improve the greater global community.

I grew up in Hartford City, a small town in northeast central Indiana. After graduating high school, I moved to Muncie and began studying at Ball State University. I completed my degrees in English, Classical Culture, Classical Greek, and Latin. While working on my BA, I was fortunate enough to take several classes in Greece and Italy, an experience that heavily contributed to pursuing a career in education. After finishing my BA, I began my Master’s in secondary education. I worked for 13 years teaching in a small town before making my way to Indianapolis.
