Ms. Melissa McCarthy

My name is Melissa McCarthy and I am a science teacher at Shortridge High School. I earned my Bachelor of Science at Ball State University and my Master of Education degree through Indiana Wesleyan University. I taught science for 24 years in West Lafayette, IN and I am very excited to have moved to Indianapolis and to be teaching at Shortridge High School. I have 2 sons, Adam and Drew. Adam is a sign language interpreter in New Orleans and married his best friend, Josh, this past April. Drew is a student at Collin College in Texas while he works full time for Amazon. I also have 2 kittens, Chip and Dale. I love doing outdoor activities (hiking, camping, backpacking, canoeing, etc.) which is ironic, because I am allergic to most things natural.

I love how chemistry is the fusion of math and science and I love passing that passion to my students. Ultimately, my goal for my students is for them to find a field they are passionate about and dedicate their lives to the pursuit of knowledge in that field. It is so important for you LOVE what you do every single day, as I do.
