Ms. Melissa Hutchinson

Though I grew up in Indiana, I haven’t lived here for nearly 25 years. I’m glad to be coming home and be teaching science at Shortridge. In the meantime, I’ve been in Kentucky, New Hampshire, Senegal, Virginia, and most recently Tennessee. Before transitioning to teaching in a classroom, I spent many years teaching biology outdoors in the field of environmental education. My passion in teaching is bringing that world into my room. I love teaching biology and environmental science because it helps us understand that we are connected to the rest of the world in fundamental ways.

I live with my dog, who is my hiking, camping and paddling buddy. When I have time, I love to knit, read, especially historical fiction, and play a mean game of euchre. Traveling has taken me many places around the world, but I’m always up for a new adventure, new languages and new foods.
