Mr. Matthew Zummo
Greetings! I am excited to join Shortridge H.S. as a Humanities teacher. For the last eight years I have been working as an educator in New York City. Recently, my wife, an employee at a local Indianapolis company, was asked to move back to Indianapolis as an employment transfer. As a History teacher in the New York City public school system, the decision to leave my current job was a challenge. I worked in the South Bronx, one of NYC’s toughest neighborhoods, with many students that were classified as “over-aged/under credited” and close to dropping out.
In the years I have been teaching, I have witnessed amazing breakthroughs. Through hard work, perseverance, and admiration, many students were able to make great advances in their scholastic career. Not only were students receiving vital credit towards graduation, they were also starting to pass two difficult exit exams in record numbers. Whether it was staying after school late or coming in on a Saturday morning to tutor, I was willing to go above and beyond to cater to any of the needs of the student. It is this “never quit” approach, plus my unending love of history, that I wish now to bring to the Indianapolis Public School and Shortridge High School.
In my spare time, I love to spend time exploring our new hometown with my wife and two young kids, Lincoln and London. I am a die hard New York Yankee fan and love being outdoors with my bike.
