Ms. Debra Morris-Relf
I am excited to serve as an Exceptional Learner Inclusion teacher within the Shortridge community this school year. I was born and raised in East Chicago, Indiana. I later attended Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana and returned to East Chicago where I taught at East Chicago Central High School and Block Junior High School. A few years later, while in “The Region,, I served as a Special Education Specialist and oversaw Special Education compliance services for 13 public and private schools within the East Chicago/Whiting (Indiana) Coop.
More recently, I have served as an Instructional Coach, Special Education Specialist, and Teacher for Indianapolis Public Schools. I have cultivated my experience in recognizing students’ needs as learners and as individuals. It is my desire to advocate for all students and guide them into becoming critical thinkers and global citizens.
Prior to becoming an Educator, I served as an Assistant Director of Economic Development for the City of East Chicago, Indiana. I have one daughter, Ariel and we spend time together traveling across the country and abroad. Seasonally, we spend time at our family home on Martha’s Vineyard.
