Greetings. My name is Chris Speckman, and I am thrilled to join Shortridge this year as the Future Center Writing Specialist. I come from Butler University, where I’m still serving as an adjunct instructor and the director of the Writing in the Schools program, which has afforded me the privilege of bringing college students into Indianapolis Public Schools for the past six years.
For the same duration, I have taught a first-year seminar at Butler called “The Poetic History of Hip Hop,” which fuses two of my passions: music and creative writing. I am the former Associate Editor of Butler’s literary journal Booth. My poetry has appeared in Scoundrel Time, Cimarron Review, Passages North, Harpur Palate, and the anthology It Was Written: Poetry Inspired by Hip-Hop.
Much of my writing is inspired by my family, including my wife Elisabeth and my polydactyl cat Fingers. We are beyond excited to welcome a son this fall.
