Shortridge High School is committed to excellence in athletics as part of a larger commitment to excellence in education. We believe in the educational value of athletics for our students. Athletics promotes character traits of high value to personal development and success in later life. We are proud of our athletic program where scholars have the opportunity to join one of our 14 organized sports. We encourage all of our scholars to participate, thus we offer our sports at each level of instruction.
The Blue Devils mission defines expectations both on the field and off. Our mission requires that Blue Devil athletes be students first, that they be scholars that take care of the details and attention to their academic record and motivation, that they benefit from the IB educational program and make satisfactory progress towards achieving the highest achievement. Our expectations for our scholars is that their attrition and graduation rates be comparable second to none.
Shortridge is also committed to the physical and emotional well-being of student-athletes and to the social development of the whole person. We recognize that great demands are placed on students who participate in athletics, and we are committed to providing support to help each student manage these demands and get the most of their Shortridge High School experience. The Shortridge Blue Devils are also expected to adhere to a level of conduct that brings credit to themselves and to the school and uphold the values of the district of citizenship and service as well as the core values: Be safe, Be responsible. Be respectful.
In the view of the health and educational value of athletics, in addition to our athletic programs, Shortridge High will create rich opportunities for participation in club sports, extracurricular activities and individual exercise and recreation.
As the Athletic Director I invite you to join us on the field, cheer for our teams, support our educational programs and promote a healthy lifestyle. If I can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.
