Blue Devil Community:
We are excited to welcome back students tomorrow, Tuesday, October 19, 2021. Those last nine weeks were a whirlwind for everyone after being away from day-to-day, in-person school, but we believe everyone has settled into a comfortable routine that focuses on being engaged in the learning process and being an active member within our community. We ask you to support that focus on growth, engaged learning, and positive presence.
To minimize those distractions to the learning process, we encourage all students to think about how their cell phone usage. Nearly all of our physical altercations were caused by social media communications that fell into the he said / she said / she said variety. The easiest way to prevent those distractions from our learning environment is to think of our phones and our online presences as an extension of who we are. Because they are.
If leaving phones at home or in our bags is not an option, the best thing to do would be to limit or turn off notifications during the school day. It’s hard to focus on learning when a cell phone buzzes in our pocket or hand or the light notification flashes in our face. That’s a simple choice that goes a long way.
Limiting cell phone distractions and interruptions and then being on time to class will go along way to providing a learning atmosphere where learning is the priority.
Reminder: All students in grades 9, 10, and 11 will take the PSAT on Tuesday, October 26. Students in Grade 12 will have a virtual learning day.
Thank you for supporting this important work and choosing Shortridge.
