Dear Shortridge Families,

Important this week!

• The National Honor Society will be hosting a canned food drive during the week on November 16th. If students donate a minimum of 250 cans, they will be allowed to have a “Jeans Day” on November 20th! Additionally, the Girl’s Basketball team is supporting the effort by offering a $1 discount on admission to their game on November 20th for all who show up with a canned food donation. We are looking specifically for holiday food items!

• United Christmas Service applications will be taken until 11-20-15. If you or another Shortridge family member is in need of help this holiday season, please contact Ms. Clair at 317-226-2825 or clairr@myips.org.

• Students, faculty, and community members interested in submitting original pieces of fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, art, photography, and/or community spotlight pieces to be published in a Shortridge literature, art, and community magazine, email submissions to Mr. Hoffmann at hoffmana@myips.org. See Hoffmann in 331 for details. Submissions Due BY NOV. 13th

• November 1-30th – Join us in the Grow Blue Campaign for Cancer Awareness. Men all over the country grow scruffy beards to raise health awareness in November. At Shortridge, we call this the Grow Blue Campaign. Anyone can join in by skipping the shaving routine and sharing statistics about cancer, cancer research, prevention strategies and early detection steps with the people they know and love. Post your “Scruffy Selfies” on Twitter, tag @Shortridge and use #SHSGrowBlue along with your tip of the day. Information, tips and a donation option are available at http:// http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR?team_id=1953812&pg=team&fr_id=72627&s_locale=en_US&et=glfUx5qDJE_XHVJBhKW9xA&s_tafId=1723156

• November 1-30th – Scholars can join the Cup Cake Campaign. American Cancer Society is “The official Sponsor of Birthdays”. To help raise funds for research, scholars can purchase paper birthday ‘cup cakes’, put the name of someone who has survived cancer, was lost to cancer or who they want to prevent from getting cancer on it and post it on their lockers. Suggested donation is $.50 per cup cake.

• Pick up your Student Code of Conduct –Parent/Student Companion Guide at the front desk and the Parent Resource Center. Great snap shot and summary of the full document which can be found at myips.org.
