Meet Mia-lon, a veteran IPS School Social at IPS Robert Lee Frost School 106. She's a Master's level, licensed clinical social worker who has successfully led three BP8 Series at Robert Frost and is leading a fourth this spring.![]()
“I was introduced to Brooke's Place three years ago, during a staff meeting at my school. I am a school social worker as well as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. It felt like a blessing because there were three students at my school who had recently lost their father to homicide. Although I was able to console them, I knew they needed more. After the presentation, I knew that a BP8 group would be very beneficial and advantageous for my students.![]()
Unfortunately, there were more losses in the lives of many of my students. Students were losing parents, grandparents, siblings, and family members, at an alarming rate. It was becoming overwhelming, but I knew that I needed to be trained to become a Brooke's Place facilitator. Yes, my social work credentials were an asset, but the actual training was awesome and so valuable working with grieving children. I feel I have grown since my first-time co-facilitating.![]()
Being an on-site facilitator has its advantages. The students know me, which I feel eased their minds during those first few BP8 sessions. Sharing my grief experiences during the groups also brings me a lot closer to my students. I become a regular person. not just Mrs. Washington, the social worker.”![]()
We are truly thankful to have you as one of our #BP8 Facilitators, Mia-lon.💜![]()
