Newcomer Program
We are a proud member of the Indianapolis Public Schools community, welcoming immigrant and refugee students in grades 7-10.
All Are Welcome.
EMBRACING THE FUTURE, ONE STUDENT AT A TIME
Welcome to the Newcomer Program at Northwest Middle School. We understand that moving to a new country is a huge transition, and we are committed to making that transition as smooth as possible for our students. We cater to immigrant and refugee students who have recently arrived in the United States and are in grades 7-10.
With bilingual and multilingual staff, a literacy coach, and a parent involvement educator, we are well-equipped to assist our students in acquiring grade-level content while simultaneously developing their English language skills. Our program is not only about teaching; it’s about community building, connection, and helping our students acclimate to their new environment.
We are 100% ENL, with all of our students new to the US and having been here for less than one year. With a mission to foster English language acquisition and essential academic skills, our students are prepared for both college and career readiness. We promote values of safety, hard work, responsibility, respect, and kindness, under the guidance of Principal Kelli Lovingfoss.
