James Russell Lowell School 51

We are a proud member of the Indianapolis Public Schools community serving grades Pre-K through 8.

Welcome to James Russell Lowell Elementary, located in the heart of the Martindale-Brightwood neighborhood. Here, we provide a safe, inspiring environment that encourages students and staff alike to achieve their fullest potential. With the “Rebuilding Stronger” plan, we’re transitioning into a Montessori school beginning the 2023-24 academic year. The mission remains the same – to cultivate a love for learning, an international perspective, and respect for individual differences and learning styles in every child.

Under the leadership of Principal Christine Rembert, we’re proud to continue our Life Skills program and excited to add Autism programming in the 2023-24 school year. We’re also looking forward to our merger with the Montessori program at Francis W. Parker School 56, combining strengths and resources for a comprehensive Montessori approach.

Beyond academics, our school is an energetic hub of activity, encouraging students to explore their interests through clubs like chess, Scouts, karate, yoga, and IPS Athletics. We also provide additional resources such as a Shalom Health Clinic and Family Food Pantry to support our students and community.

At James Russell Lowell Elementary, we believe in the power of student-centered teaching and the importance of learning how to learn. With our Montessori approach, we aim to foster an environment that helps each child to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. We encourage our parents and community members to be active partners in this exciting journey.

As we transition into a Montessori school, we’re more committed than ever to our core values of being responsible, respectful, and safe. We’re proud of our diverse ethnic student body and our collaborations with organizations like Salesforce, IUPUI, Ivy Tech, Art with A Heart, Boy Scouts of America, and several others.
