Mission

All children have access to high-quality, developmentally appropriate and equitable preschool experiences which enable them to become life-long learners. This will be accomplished by recognizing the value and diverse learning styles of each individual student and promoting his or her personal growth in a challenging, culturally relevant, and caring environment.

Vision

The IPS Preschool Program serves children who turn 4 years old on or before August 1st. Our program is developmentally appropriate, offering instructional and play-based experiences designed to support a preschooler’s growth: physically, emotionally, intellectually, and socially.

Information

Francis Bellamy is the location of the only IPS Preschool Center. Our preschool program is designed to promote readiness for a child’s future learning expectations with the understanding that readiness is not aligned to academic knowledge but to the development of social, emotional, physical and mindfulness that will enable a child to fully engage in learning experiences.

Parents provide transportation to our full-day program that follows the IPS school calendar. The daily schedule will include circle activities to remind students of or introduce routines, promote language development, introduce and practice calming strategies, increase awareness of the world, and develop social skills. Read aloud experiences will occur daily. Center time will incorporate choice to the extent possible and may include but is not limited to a teacher table, sensory play, writing station, painting easel, nature/science station, book exploration area, home center/dramatic play area, space for fine motor development – puzzles etc., blocks and building materials, art, music/movement, and math/number areas. Additional options can also be included such as a technology station or a seasonal craft station. The preschool day will also include activities and experiences to promote social-emotional development.

Rest time is part of the daily schedule and will not exceed 60 minutes. Supervised quiet activities will be available for the non-nappers/early risers.
