Shortridge High School is home to the district’s International Baccalaureate (IB) programs, including Middle Years Programme, Diploma Programme and Career-Related Programme distinctions.
Middle Years Programme (MYP)
The MYP is designed for students in Grades 9 and 10. It provides a framework of learning that encourages students to become creative, critical and reflective thinkers. The MYP emphasizes intellectual challenge, where students are encouraged to make connections between their studies in traditional subjects and the real world. It fosters the development of skills for communication, intercultural understanding and global engagement — essential qualities for young people who are becoming leaders. The MYP builds upon knowledge, skills and attitudes and prepares students to meet the academic challenges of the IB, Diploma Programme.
Diploma Programme (DP)
The DP is an academically challenging and balanced program of education with final examinations that prepare students, ages 16 to 19, for success in college and in life beyond. It has been designed to address the intellectual, social, emotional and physical well-being of students. The program has earned recognition and respect from the world’s leading universities as an indicator for success beyond high school.
Career-Related Programme (CP)
The CP is designed for students interested in pursuing a career-related visual and performing arts education in the final two years of school. It provides them with an excellent foundation to support their further studies, as well as ensures their preparedness for success in the workforce. Shortridge offers IB/CP courses in the following areas:
- Vocal Music
- Visual Arts
- Global Studies
