Early Childhood Education Pathway

The early childhood education pathway prepares students for careers that involve working with children from birth to 8 years old. Students participate in 480 hours of clinical experiences working with children. They learn about career paths in early childhood education, including promoting child development and learning; building family and community relationships; observing, documenting and assessing to support young children and families; and using developmentally effective approaches.

Education Professions Pathway

The education professions pathway provides the foundation for employment in education and related careers and prepares students for study in higher education. Students participate in exploratory field experiences as a cadet teacher. They also learn about the teaching profession, the learner and the learning process, planning instruction, about the learning environment, and instructional and assessment strategies.

Biomedical Sciences Pathway

Students are empowered to explore and find solutions to some of today’s most pressing medical challenges. Through scaffolded activities that connect learning to life, students step into the roles of biomedical science professionals and investigate topics including human medicine, physiology, genetics, microbiology and public health. Students work together in teams to find unique solutions, and in the process, they learn in-demand, transferable skills such as critical thinking and communication.

Health Informatics Pathway

The health informatics pathway introduces students to the discipline through a series of authentic projects that merge information science, computer science and health care. Through real-world projects, students use information technology, data analysis software and statistics to address a range of health-related topics. Health informatics helps students learn to design, manage and use technology to analyze data and information to inform better health care decisions and, in turn, improve the delivery of health care services.

Nursing Pathway

The nursing pathway prepares students for entry-level certification to work as a nursing assistant in health care facilities. Students participate in 75 hours of clinical experiences at local long-term care facilities. They learn skills in patient care, treatment, anatomy, physiology, diagnosis and preventative care.

IPS and IU Heath — Health Care Fellowship Program

Partnership with Indiana University creates a health care fellowship for IPS students.

Physical Therapy Pathway

Students focus on learning about the health care system and employment opportunities at a variety of entry levels: an overview of health care delivery systems, health care teams, and legal and ethical considerations. Students build their essential job-related skills to help patients perform specific exercises. They use massage and stretching techniques for treatment, aide patients with devices for movement, observe patient progress; educate patients and families, assist in cleaning treatment areas, and provide clerical assistance.
