Indianapolis Public Schools has invested in crossing guards for the 2020–21 school year to help to ensure that our students who walk or bike to school can do so in a safe and secure way. The addition of crossing guards also allows the district to fully implement its longstanding walk-zone policy, and to ensure proper social distancing on district school buses.
As IPS returns to in-person learning, the district is enforcing walk zones for 13 of our schools.
Families affected by this change have been informed that their student(s) are ineligible for transportation services and have been assigned the “walker” designation for their transportation status. Notices sent to families were based on their current address and is compliant with the current IPS walk-zone policy.
In conjunction with our walk zones, we are strengthening our current Indy-Go partnership and implementing a hybrid learning model for our middle and high school students.
