Sunday Evening Phone Message for 5.3.20

  • Mission Moment: Our school’s mission is inspiring children to change the world. Our middle schoolers have been brainstorming and reflecting on what acts of kindness they have participated in or seen during Coronavirus. How are you spreading kindness right now?
  • If you are NOT planning to return to our school for the 2020-2021 school year we need you to let us know. A survey will be sent home through your teacher this week. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Barber.
  • Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana and IPS will distribute boxes of food to families on a first-come, first-served bases here at School 55 this Monday 4 to 6 p.m in the back parking lot.
  • As a reminder, IPS has partnered with Circle City Broadcasting to broadcast academic lessons to IPS students in Grades K–8 five days a week. The lessons will air from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday–Friday on MyINDY-TV 23. MyINDY-TV 23 will record and produce the lessons presented by IPS teachers. The broadcast lessons will mirror the videos teachers have already recorded on their class pages online and will cover content in the homework packets mailed to families. Families who don’t have access to MyINDY-TV 23 via cable or satellite provider can receive it for free through an antenna or converter box.
  • Beginning next week, through the remainder of the school year we will have Home Learning Days on Tuesday – Friday. Our current plan for Tuesday-Thursday will stay the same with reading, writing, and math lessons. Fridays will be used as a day for families to do the related arts lessons as well as catch up on any missed work from the week. Teachers will continue to email you a weekly learning plan detailing assignments that need to be completed and links to zoom sessions and lesson videos for the Home Learning Days.
  • As a reminder our teachers have office hours on Home Learning Days from 9-12pm and 1-4pm to support your efforts. There will be one change to this for the remainder of our Home Learning Days. On Fridays only our teachers will be available for limited office hours. K-5th grade teachers will be available for office hours on Friday from 1-3pm. Middle School and Related Arts teachers will be available for office hours on Friday from 10am – 12pm. You can contact teachers during their office hours for support with student work, a one-on-one Zoom meeting, to ask specific questions, and/or just to connect with the teacher. Remember we are here for you and your families.
  • New Home Learning Packets were mailed by IPS to homes last week. If you do not receive your new packets by Tuesday, May 5 you will need to pick one up for your student at one of the IPS 14 food distribution sites on May 6 or May 11 between 8:30-10am at the school’s main entrance. The various times and locations of those sites can be found on the myips website under Meal Locations.
