Principal’s Update 2.19.20

  • Notable Measures gave us $1000 to spend on our music program. Kate (16) and Meg (13) Dimmit started a nonprofit to support music programs in schools. They came to perform to one of our fourth-grade classes and presented us with the check yesterday. WTHR did a story on it! If you google WTHR and Notable Measures you can check it out.
  • Families will receive the results from the first round of the lottery tomorrow. Contact April if you have questions or need help with anything enrollment related!
  • You may have seen this on social media, but this year our Teacher of the Year is Brittany Shackelford! Brittany currently teaches third grade, but she has previously taught second grade at both 60 and 55. She is a fabulous teacher known for her engaging project work. Her students are currently working on designing an outdoor classroom for our school and they have also submitted a grant through Big Green to bring a Learning Garden to 55! If you see Brittany please congratulate her.
  • Spirit Week is next week. Students don’t have to be in uniform but we do ask that everything worn is school appropriate!
  • March 4th is Parents in Touch! The link has been sent out in email and Friday folders. Please sign up for your time!
  • Registration forms for K/1 soccer, 2/3 soccer, MS volleyball have been sent out! Registration is open! All the spring sports are co-ed.
  • Middle School Updates:
    • The middle school teachers will lead a morning meeting in each of the 5th grade classrooms to introduce themselves and start to build relationships with the kids.
    • A panel of current middle school students will be answering 5th graders’ questions.
    • The 5th graders are invited to join the middle schoolers for an End of the Year event during the last day of school to welcome them to the middle school.
  • We will add a MS Science and MS Social Studies teacher to our team. Students will have one-hour classes each day and go to ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Related Arts daily.
  • Middle School will be housed in the short hallway with art and music. We will add more lockers this summer and transition two of the classrooms for Science and Social Studies.
  • More info posted under Students and Family Resources: Transition to Middle School.
  • Our first Middle School Dance is next Friday! We are really excited for our students to have this experience and we are grateful for the parents helping us to put it together. There is sign-up sheet going around if you’d like to support us! Mrs. Dixon is here to share more.
