At the November
Agenda Review and Action Sessions, the Indianapolis Public Schools Board of
School Commissioners will discuss and consider initiatives related to school
enrollment, Innovation Network Schools and wraparound support services for


Innovation Network Schools 

Following in the
footsteps of Cold Spring School and George H. Fisher School 93, the school
leadership team at Edison School of the Arts School 47 is considering an
application for conversion to Innovation Network status. This would allow
Edison’s administrators greater flexibility in management to meet the
identified needs of their students, families and staff. The Edison team, with
the support of the IPS Innovation Office, will present proposed plans for
updates to the school model and support systems for the potential conversion


GEAR Up Program

Commissioners will
also be briefed on initial plans for the GEAR Up program, a partnership with
Purdue University. This statewide college and career readiness program for
low-income students is aligned with the 21st Century
Scholars program and would provide academic interventions for students, along
with professional development for staff members.


School Enrollment

Enroll Indy, the
organization proposing a system for a unified enrollment processes across our
community, will present an informational update to Commissioners along with a
proposed term sheet outlining a potential partnership with IPS. In addition to
a potential unified enrollment system, Enroll Indy is developing a school
finder program to assist families in finding schools that fit their specific


Board to Begin Search for Echols’

As District 5
Commissioner LaNier Echols announced her intent to resign from the Board
earlier this week, the Board must begin the process of selecting a candidate to
serve our Northwest-side families until the next election for that seat. The
Board will review and discuss the process for interviewing candidates and
outlining next steps.
