William Murphy has been the Executive Director of Enroll Indy for the past three years. Prior to Enroll Indy he served as the Vice President of Louisiana Schools for IDEA Public Schools, a large interstate charter network.

Previously, Murphy was the Chief School Support Networks Officer for the Jefferson Parish Public School System in Louisiana. In that role, he oversaw supervision and support of 80 school leaders, during which time the district improved performance from a D to a B state rating.

In addition to work as an independent consultant, Murphy was the founding board chair of the Center for Resilience, serving children with severe mental health needs in New Orleans and worked with the University of Virginia Partnership for Leadership Education. 

Before moving to Louisiana, Murphy served as principal of the Hamilton Elementary Middle School in Baltimore, MD, for four years. While he was principal of Hamilton, the school was among the highest performing open enrollment k-8 schools in Baltimore.

Murphy began his career teaching special education in Garyville, Louisiana before teaching middle school math and science in greater Boston for four years. 

Murphy holds a B.A. in English Literature and Psychology from Hamilton College, an M.A. in Religion and Culture from The Catholic University of America, an M.Ed. in Elementary Education/Curriculum and Instruction from Boston College, and an EdD in Urban Education Leadership from Xavier University of Louisiana.
