When Lacy Johnson learned about the Indianapolis Motor
Speedway’s efforts to increase its outreach to a younger more diverse audience,
he had the perfect idea.
Johnson, an attorney and partner at Ice Miller, purchased
250 tickets to the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500, held May
29 at the IMS, and donated them to Indianapolis Public Schools.
Hundreds of IPS seventh- and eight-graders, along with
several chaperones, were among the thousands of spectators inside the famed speedway
for the historic race.
or near-perfect attendance.
While at the IMS, students were given the VIP treatment
along with gift bags provided by the Speedway. IPS provided transportation and
lunch.
IPS would like to thank Lacy Johnson, Ice Miller and the
Indianapolis Motor Speedway for their generosity, and for exposing our students
to one of the Greatest Spectacles in Racing.
