Recently, Indianapolis Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Lewis D. Ferebee issued a heartfelt statement about the devastating outbreak of deaths and injuries due to youth violence. He asked interested members of the Indianapolis community to join the district in discussion about how to collaboratively improve outcomes for our young people. Here’s an update on our plans.

Since Dr. Ferebee’s important call to action urging the Indianapolis community to come together to address the safety of area youth, the district has received over 75 responses from individuals who are interested in engaging in solution-based discussion. Each respondent received a confirmation notification and was asked to clarify their preferred contact method. Local organizations have also reached out to express interest in the conversation.

The IPS administration is currently planning a community summit for the third week in March, before IPS students leave for spring break. The summit will include a facilitated general session, specific breakout activities and next steps on establishing a taskforce.
