Forthe second year in a row, three IPS schools have been recognized as “familyfriendly” by the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE).
TheIDOE recently released its 2017-2018 list of Family Friendly Schools and IPS’ ColdSpring School, Daniel Webster School 46 and Washington Irving School 14 areamong the 32 Indiana schools named. The designation is given to schools thatexcel in involving families and communities in their students’ education.
“Successfuleducation is the byproduct of great teachers, engaged families, and an involvedcommunity,” said Dr. Jennifer McCormick, Indiana superintendent of public instruction.“I am proud to recognize these Family Friendly Schools for creating a welcomingand positive environment for their students and communities.”
TheFamily Friendly Schools program was launched in 2015. It focuses on addressingthe academic, physical, emotional and social needs of students, while providingneeded resources and fostering the active involvement of their families throughschools and the community, according to the IDOE website.
Theprogram is intended to recognize and honor schools that welcome all familiesinto the school community, communicate effectively, support student success,speak up for every child, share power, and collaborate with the community.
