It’s time to begin our process of selecting the 2017
Indianapolis Public Schools Teacher of the Year. The program is an annual
opportunity to define effective teaching, acknowledge excellent instruction and
reward the outstanding accomplishments of our educators.
Each school has selected a building level teacher of the
year and now our educators are gearing up for the fast-approaching portfolio
deadline. More than 50 teachers are currently organizing their portfolios,
which will help demonstrate their ability to:
- Show concern for individual students and ability
to inspire exceptional learning.
- Work effectively with a variety of groups
throughout our community.
- Stay knowledgeable of current and trending
educational theories and practices.
- Utilize innovative instructional practices.
A five-member committee of teachers, principals and
instructional coordinators will select the top 10 district finalists based only
on the aforementioned evaluation criteria. But their jobs aren’t easy.
“It truly is a challenging
task choosing only 10 finalists in a pool of amazing instructors, but it’s
rewarding to highlight the best educators that IPS has to offer,” said Tammy
Bowman, IPS curriculum officer and Teacher of the Year Selection Committee
will be named at the end of May, with the winner announced on June 3.
IPS couldn’t be
more excited to highlight our amazing educators, who display excellence in and
out of the classroom on a regular basis. Their demonstrated commitment is commendable
and we look forward to supporting this year’s winner on his/her journey toward
state and national recognition.
