Indianapolis
Public Schools is proud to announce Superintendent Dr. Lewis D. Ferebee was
unanimously approved to join Chiefs for Change, a national organization dedicated
to bringing together bold and innovative education leaders to collaborate with
the common vision of improving student outcomes.

Dr.
Ferebee joins three other leaders in the newest cohort of Chiefs for Change
members: Malika Anderson, superintendent of Tennessee’s Achievement School
District; Nevada Superintendent of Public Instruction Steve Canavero; and
Mississippi State Superintendent of Education Carey M. Wright. Chiefs for
Change announced the selection of Dr. Ferebee and the rest of the group saying
“these four Chiefs have a reputation for innovative and
strategic leadership in their states and districts. They all are focused
on engaging with teachers, leaders, students and families to envision what is
possible for children and school systems in this new era of American
education.”

“This
organization understands there are diverse solutions to the various challenges
our students face, and we all share a common vision of ensuring every student
attends a great school,” said Dr. Ferebee. “I am excited about the opportunity
to collaborate with this dedicated group of gifted educational leaders.”

Chiefs
for Change now has 21 members — all leaders in education — serving 2.8 million
students, 176,000 teachers and 5,000 schools. This diverse, bipartisan group
hosts collaborative work sessions on high-interest topics including the new
Every Student Succeeds Act and governance models. Chiefs for Change also
facilitates peer to peer advising and policy advising for internal and external
organizations.

“One
commonality among our members is that their thinking begins with
students,” said Chiefs for Change CEO Mike Magee. “And they do
the hard work of creating a culture where everyone thinks that way, where kids
are the North Star. Their mission is to transform our systems — which in most
cases were designed 50 or even 100 years ago — so that they serve today’s kids
and tomorrow’s. Our four newest members are great representative examples of
that kind of transformational leadership.”

We
are excited to announce the inclusion of Dr. Ferebee in this strong group of
educational professionals!
