Indianapolis Public Schools is proud to share our Strategic Plan 2015 with the people who help steer the future of the district: our community members. Thousands of community voices were heard through listening tours, focus groups, drafting committee sessions and more – now we have a roadmap to guide our work for the next three years at IPS. To launch the plan and continue the excitement about our new direction focusing on School Autonomy and Accountability, Efficient and Streamlined Business Practices, Leadership and Talent Development, and offering a Storefront of Support Services for our Community, we’ve been celebrating with our friends, families, and neighbors all over town!
This week, the talented performing and visual artists of IPS were showcased at our Arts & Ed Mixer. Visitors to the Artsgarden at Circle Centre were treated to performances by the Nicholson Performing Arts Academy at School 70 choir, as well as the Broad Ripple Magnet High School for the Performing Arts Jazz Band and String Octet.
Arts education is vital to success for many students. Engaging and equitable arts opportunities are known to improve attendance rates, student achievement rates, and family and community engagement. That’s why we’re proud to be the next site for the Kennedy Center’s Any Given Child initiative. Experts from the Kennedy Center will guide a team of IPS and community leaders to draft a plan for increasing and improving arts opportunities for our students. This program, brought to our city by the Arts Council of Indianapolis, is sure to make a huge impact on the lives of many students for years to come!
We’ve had such a great time celebrating with our community through diverse Strategic Plan launch events. From the Brightwood Block Party to the South side Bowl-a-Rama and the inspiring Educator Excellence Symposium at Marian University, this has truly been a wonderful opportunity to connect with many different stakeholder groups within the IPS family. The Strategic Plan is only a document unless we have the full support of our community to make our goals a reality. We look forward to teaming up with you in the future as we make strides in our Teaching and Learning, Efficient Operations and Family and Community goal areas. The celebration isn’t over yet! Today’s rain caused a postponement of our outdoor Circle Takeover lunchtime entertainment event today; we will make an announcement in the near future on the details of our rescheduled event. If you would like to have IPS come to speak to your business, community group or neighborhood association about IPS Strategic Plan 2015 and the future of the district, please contact us about scheduling for our Speakers Bureau at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 317.226.4000.
