Indianapolis Public Schools is committed to fostering
growth, and that certainly isn’t contained to our student body. Our school
administrators spent two days of their bustling back to school season this week
in intensive professional development at our Summer Leadership Institute (SLI).

Under the guidance of Deputy Superintendent for Academics
Dr. Wanda H. Legrand, representatives from IPS academics, curriculum, student
services and core leadership presented workshops and informational sessions to
inspire our Principals and Assistant Principals for the coming school year.
Each session touched on the theme of “Expanding Your Vision” for 2015-2016.

“I challenge you to think big; dream differently,”
Superintendent Dr. Lewis D. Ferebee told administrators as he opened SLI with a
keynote address Thursday morning. “I know many schools experienced gains last
year; but I challenge you to stretch yourself and stretch your team, and most
importantly, expand your vision.”

Our administrators received updates on the student code of
conduct and the district’s new literacy framework, along with sessions
highlighting the assistance and guidance available through IPS Central
Services.

“Excellence is not achieved by chance or circumstance;
excellence is achieved by strategic and intentional behavior,” Dr. Ferebee told
administrators as he reminded them to think about the big picture throughout
the SLI sessions.

We’re confident the 2015-2016 school year will be an
exciting and innovative time for our students, families and staff; we’re eager
to see where the expanded vision of our school leaders takes the myIPS family!
