At the April 30 Action Session the Indianapolis Public Schools Board of School Commissioners voted on a revised public comment policy to promote increased transparency, greater efficiency and enhanced opportunities for public involvement in meetings.

Those wishing to speak must still register, but can now do so online on the School Board page or by contacting the board office by phone or email no later than 12:00 p.m. on the day preceding the scheduled meeting. Required registration information includes the name and contact information of the registrant, the name of the organization (if any) that the person represents and the topic to be discussed.

There are also some differences between Agenda Review Sessions and Action Sessions regarding when public comments will be heard:

  • At Agenda Review Sessions, where information and potential action items are discussed, all comments will be heard during the Public Comment segment of the agenda.
  • At Action Sessions, where pending action items are brought to the Board for a vote, comments on a specific agenda item will be taken at the time that agenda item is before the Board. General comments will be taken during the Public General Comment segment of the agenda.
