Hector Hernandez

Edgar Hernandez, a student at Lew Wallace School 107, is just one of several students who secured the No. 1 spot in recent building-level spelling bee competitions at IPS schools throughout the district.

Schools have until Dec. 21 to complete building-level competitions. The building-level winners will move onto the next phase of the competition — the districtwide spelling bee.

The district bee will be hosted Friday, January 25, at Arsenal Technical High School’s Anderson Auditorium. District winners will advance to the regional bee, with those winners moving onto the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

The spelling bee is open to students in Grades 4-8.

Good luck to all of our competitors!
