We’re getting
ready to hit the links with strong community supporters this summer.

Indianapolis Public Schools is proud to announce our
inaugural IPS Golf Classic! On August 26, we’re taking over the Brickyard Crossing Golf
for our first district golf
scramble fundraiser.

Businesses and individual supporters will join local
celebrities and IPS leadership team members for a day of food and fun for a great

Proceeds from the event will support scholarships for our Career Technology Center students. The center, located at Arsenal
Technical High School, is a rewarding and exciting program that educates and
prepares IPS students to
graduate from high school as trade professionals via 15 different career
pathways or to enter post-secondary educational opportunities.

Supported by businesses throughout the community, CTC
graduates often become major entrepreneurial and economic
contributors to Indianapolis.

The IPS Golf Classic will provide CTC students
with the support they to need to continue to thrive.

Odle, vice president of the Board of School Commissioners, is advising the
steering committee for the IPS Golf Classic and shared his thoughts on the
exciting event in a recent Q & A:

Q: Why do you think it
is important for stakeholders in the business sector to connect with IPS in new
ways such as the upcoming IPS Golf Classic?

Education and employers need to align in new ways to assure
our students know about the wonderful job opportunities ahead for them, if they
get a good education. Employers need well-educated employees if their
businesses are to grow.

Q: How does the
district’s commitment to building relationships with various stakeholder groups
through new and engaging events and initiatives support the vision of the Board
of School Commissioners?

Our vision is that IPS will be a school system that prepares
our graduates for enlistment in the military, enrollment in a post-secondary
education program or productive employment. That employment should be in a job
that pays a livable wage and has opportunity for advancement.

Q: Funds raised from
the IPS Golf Classic will support scholarships for current and graduating
Career Technology Center students. Could you share your thoughts on the value
of offering students access to lucrative career pathways, including Computer
Science, Architecture, Culinary Arts, Fire/Rescue and more?

Not all students will desire to or be in a position to immediately
go on to college. That’s why we offer CTC programs of education. We want our
students going on to livable wage jobs that have opportunity for advancement.

Q: Why would you
encourage your colleagues and friends to take part in the IPS Golf Classic?

Many IPS students live in circumstances that do not allow
their families to provide resources to support their education. The funds
generated by the golf outing will allow us to help support those students and
assure their future success.
