Over 15 school administrators will take to the asphalt this weekend as they run the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon 5K with their students.
“This is my second year running with the students,” says Clarence Farrington School 61 Principal Carole Wilson. “It’s one of my favorite events all year because it gives our kids the opportunity to see the impact of goal-setting outside of the classroom.”
Gambold Preparatory Magnet High School Principal Shane O’Day recently ran the Chicago Marathon but can’t wait to run alongside his students at this year’s Monumental Marathon.
“Running alongside Gambold Prep and IPS students is an honor because I know what it took to train and prepare,” O’Day says. “It is this type of dedication and perseverance that translates from our athletic programs to our classrooms.”
For some administrators this is the first year they’ve chosen to run the course with their students.
“I am excited about running with the kids,” says Meredith Nicholson School 96 Principal Mary Siefert. “I was able to attend a few after school training sessions with the kids, the other training has been on my own in the evenings or on weekends. I think it is important to promote a healthy lifestyle for our children. What a great way to do this together as a school!”
We’re so proud of not only our 1,200 students that are running but also our staff and administrators for going the extra mile, literally, and participating in this event!
