Ron Sims is a quiet, polite and modest
student, who dreams of graduating from college and establishing a successful dental
practice in his home state of Indiana.
A senior at Northwest Community High
School on the city’s far west side, Ron has secured his spot as the school’s salutatorian
with a 3.9 GPA.
But being one of the two highest
performing students in his high school comes with a measure of accountability.
“I feel the responsibility of carrying out my vision for my school family. They
(Northwest) molded me into the person I am, so in return I’m going to show what
I can do in the world.”
A solid family foundation has been
the key to Ron’s high school success.
“My mom and dad are the two who
showed me how the world works. They never forced me to do anything I didn’t
want to, they just guided me and put me in the position I am in today,” said
When he’s not studying, Ron can be
found playing video games or taking a leisurely run. A piano player since age 15, he also makes
music during his spare time.
Ron credits Northwest High School for
providing him with a strong ability to persevere.
“While I didn’t experience any hardships
in high school, there were certainly days that were harder than others. It wasn’t
always easy, but I was comfortable being uncomfortable when it was necessary,”
he said. “The things that I went through in high school I knew would eventually
come to an end, so I just pushed through and overcame the obstructions.”
Ron’s Northwest High School journey
will end June 8 (graduation day). He will use his down time this summer to bowl
and hang out with his family and friends before heading to IUPUI in the fall to
study dental hygiene.
