The Eleanor Skillen School 34 media center received a renewal over Fall Break thanks to a Giving Sum grant that the Paws and Think organization was awarded. Paws and Think works every week with Eleanor Skillen students on their reading skills in that very media center. Giving Sum is a group of young professionals in the Indianapolis area who pool their resources to give out one grant a year to do more for their community.

The grant awarded was $50,000. Eleanor Skillen Principal Susan Mahoney said that work is now almost complete on the media center renewal and that the money was used to:

  • Provide the center with over 20 Kindle Fires
  • Buy new book resources
  • Repaint the whole center
  • Pull out sections and replace them with sofas
  • Add new tables and chairs
  • Redo the carpet and the shades

“The changes have transformed the space and made it very inviting and bright,” Principal Mahoney said. The school has planned an unveiling of the renewed media center for early November.

Principal Mahoney is overjoyed the partnership with Paws and Think and Giving Sum has helped her school in such a generous way. With the renewed media center, Eleanor Skillen will elevate the reading skills of even more students than before!
