Isaac Vaught, a senior at Shortridge High School, is the
epitome of the term student-athlete. And his hard work hasn’t gone unnoticed.
On March 25, Vaught was awarded the Kiwanis-NextGear Capital
Academic All-Star Award during the 70th Annual Boys High School Basketball
State Finals Luncheon at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. The luncheon is hosted by the
Kiwanis Club of Indianapolis.
The award honors senior boys who have received the highest
academic achievement based on a combination of grade point average, SAT scores
and class rank. Five students received awards.
Vaught has a 4.26 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
One of 18 finalists, Vaught is the only award winner from
Indianapolis Public Schools this year. Four finalists total hailed from IPS,
including Christian Smith from Arlington Community High School, and Shortridge
students DeJuan Pendergrass and Anthony Graves.
In addition to Vaught’s award, he received a $1,000
