Nurturing the Earth: IPS Schools Celebrate Sustainability

At Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS), we believe that every day is Earth Day. Our schools participate in various initiatives throughout the year to promote environmental awareness and healthy living, such as the Lily Day of Service, where students maintain green spaces, and the installation of Colts playgrounds that encourage physical activity.

One of the most impactful programs we’ve implemented is the introduction of healthy snacks in the classroom, providing fruits and vegetables to our students. This initiative not only promotes nutritious eating habits but also reduces our reliance on processed foods that can harm the environment.

This week, as part of our Earth Day series, we will be visiting a different IPS school each day to showcase their thriving school gardens. These gardens serve as living laboratories where students learn about plant health, sustainable agriculture, and the importance of preserving our natural resources.

Through hands-on involvement in planting, watering, harvesting, and composting, our students gain a deeper appreciation for the Earth and the food they eat. By teaching our students to care for the planet, we are investing in a more sustainable future for all. Join us as we celebrate the incredible ways our IPS schools are making every day Earth Day.
