Simply put, it hasn’t been a quiet summer for Brandon Warren. In July, he was named the top finalist for the 2022 Distinguished Educator Award presented by Indiana Black Expo (IBE), and then he won a 2022 Jeep Compass during the IBE Education Conference. On top of all that excitement, Warren just took over as the principal at Raymond F.Brandes School 65.
“It’s been surreal,” said the 36-year-old Warren, now in his 14th year as an educator after earning his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from IUPUI. “It was an honor to be honored by my peers and to stand among my peers. It is just an honor and a privilege to say that I work with children and guide them on their future.”
The last few weeks have been a whirlwind as Warren takes on his new role at Raymond F. Brandes after serving as assistant principal at IPS’ Brookside School 54.
“I just want is to be part of the wonderful work going on here,” said Warren. Who admits he a proud champion of Indianapolis’ south side where his new school is located. “Being a teacher is all I’ve ever wanted to do. And, that is the very thing I’ve done. I just want our students to see something in themselves that they didn’t know existed. I want them to work hard to make something of themselves.”
Brookside Principal Jeremy Baugh worked closely with Warren over the past few years and believes Raymond F. Brandes is in good hands.
“Mr. Brandon Warren is a remarkable educator, and will be an exceptional principal at Raymond Brandes elementary,” said Baugh, who noted Warren’s rise from teacher to administrator. “Mr. Warren has a keen understanding of curriculum and instruction and can support teachers with resources, ideas and tools to reach all students.
“Mr. Warren is loved by students and families because of his high expectations, unwavering belief in all children, and open accessibility and love he shows towards them,” Baugh said. “Brookside School 54 is sad to see Mr. Warren go, but we are SO proud to know that our Mr. Warren is off steering his ship, and leading another school community towards excellence in attitude, actions and achievement our Brookside community has come to know and expect.”
