Within our Core Commitments and Beliefs, which serve as the foundation for Indianapolis Public Schools operations and services (see IPS Strategic Plan 2015), is the vision that all students can achieve their full potential, learn at high levels and graduate prepared to succeed in school, career and life. To support this commitment to our students, we have partnered with Naviance to offer a comprehensive college and career readiness platform that will help align student strengths and interests to their post-secondary goals that will directly improve student outcomes.
Naviance is a college and career readiness solution that empowers students and their families to connect learning and life; it will allow students to create a plan for their future.
“The easy to use interface is a great tool for post-secondary planning, regardless if you are going to college or straight into the workforce. There are tools available to assist you and your child as they move toward graduation,” says Deb Leser, IPS Director of Student Services.
What do you want to be when you grow up? This question lingers in children’s thoughts from an early age. With the right support from school and home, students can begin to see the full scope of their dreams. The resources available through Naviance will allow students to gage what they need to do in high school to achieve their goals after graduation.
Next week, on December 8 students and families are invited to join school leaders for a Day with Naviance. Each school with students in grades 6 through 12 will offer a learning session to help guide families through the Naviance system and to assist parents in setting up their account. For more information about your school’s Day with Naviance session, contact your Parent Involvement Educator or Guidance Counselor.
To access the platform parents must obtain the unique URL and login credentials from their school’s Parent Involvement Educator within their school. Once you are granted access to the Naviance Family Connection site, you’ll have an abundance of resources available at your fingertips so you can:
· View updates from your school and schedule guidance counselor meetings
· Research colleges, enrichment programs and scholarships
· Request teacher recommendations and transcripts for college applications
· Complete personality and interests assessments
· Research careers, salaries and employment demand trends
· Create a resume, and view test scores, GPA and rank
Our goal as a district is for every student to be enrolled, enlisted or employed at a livable wage after graduation. It is imperative that schools and families work collaboratively to prepare students for life after high school. We invite families to our Day with Naviance next Tuesday, December 8 and hope that you’ll join us in our journey toward excellence.
