Superintendent Dr. Lewis D. Ferebee works with pre-school students at Eliza Blaker School 55 Mayor Ballard joined Superintendent, Dr. Lewis D. Ferebee, on a visit to the pre-school program at Eliza Blaker School 55 on Wednesday, August 6.

Expanding access to affordable, high-quality preschool for children from low-income families is one of the components of the Mayor’s long-term initiative to address the root causes of crime.

Mayor Ballard and Dr. Ferebee engaged with staff and students at Eliza Blaker and met with the media during the visit.

Indianapolis Public Schools has expanded their pre-school options to 13 additional schools for the 2014-2015 school year and is excited to collaborate with the Mayor on this effort. For a complete list of IPS pre-school sites, click here.

Eliza Blaker School 55 is named after the woman who brought the innovative concept of free kindergarten to Indianapolis children in need in the 1880s. Learn more about Blaker’s work here.
