The Indianapolis Public Schools Board of School
Commissioners will meet May 26 for an Agenda Review Session and May 28 for an
Action Session. Topics to be addressed at these meetings include:
- Commissioners
will receive an update on a Career Technology Center partnership with Duke
Realty, Habitat for Humanity and the DirectEmployers Foundation. The goal of
this partnership is to increase student opportunities in the career fields of
commercial and residential construction, giving our graduates a pipeline to
jobs with a competitive wage. - Commissioners will learn more about a proposed
partnership with Public Impact to implement the Opportunity Culture (OC) model
in selected schools. This model is geared to increase student achievement and
offer competitive salaries to highly qualified teachers. Rather than the
traditional classroom model, students would spend time with a team including a
teacher-leader, experienced teachers, and classroom assistants. Increased
technology use is also key to the model. Commissioners will be briefed on the
proposed research, planning and implementation process for the district. - Commissioners will finalize the revised public
comment process, including the district’s new online registration form to ensure
everyone has a chance to participate in the board’s public meetings. - In a continued commitment to the safety of our
students and staff, Board commissioners will review and discuss proposed policy
changes to clarify the district’s policy regarding the use of physical force in
staff supervision of students and to reaffirm the district’s prohibition of
corporal punishment. - In addition to recognizing the 2015 Innovation
School Fellows chosen to design and launch innovative educational school models
to replace chronically underperforming schools in the district, the Board will
review and vote on two proposed Innovation Network Charter School agreements
for the 2015-2016 school year with KIPP Indianapolis and Enlace
Academy.
