Nearly 5,500 applications were entered by our Magnet/Choice lottery deadline – now it’s time to match students with their new schools! The dedicated team in our Office of Enrollment and Options is working diligently to ensure the needs of our families are met in the best ways possible.


Now that the lottery applications have all been submitted, the new Indianapolis Public Schools Choice lottery logic will take effect for the student assignment process. The following factors will be considered as “weights” are added to a student’s lottery application:

  • Sibling preference
  • Proximity
  • Geography (applicable only for programs offered in multiple locations)
  • IPS employee status


IPS is pleased to offer a customer-friendly online application service this year; families are notified automatically of successful submission, waitlist assignments and program seat offerings. If your student’s application was submitted by the lottery deadline (5 p.m. on December 11), you can expect to receive information about your seat offer or waitlist assignment by the end of January.


If you weren’t able to make the lottery deadline, you can still submit a Magnet/Choice application! Late applications will not be included in the lottery, but will be addressed for available seats and waitlist assignments on a first come, first served basis. Late applicants to programs at full capacity will be added to the end of the waitlist, and late applicants for programs with seats remaining may be granted admission immediately and will be guided through the enrollment process by our friendly team of experts.
