John Marshall Community High School senior Joana Ayala is first in her class, a commander in her JROTC battalion and now a winner of the prestigious Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship.
The scholarship covers the cost of tuition, fees and books for four years at any Indiana public or private college or university.
“I’ve dreamed of this my whole life,” Ayala said. “Everything I did was with this is mind, I’ve worked so hard in school my whole life for this and I’ve made it! I don’t have words to explain how excited I am and how grateful I am to all those who believed in me and saw potential in my abilities.”
“We are beyond proud of Joana and her accomplishments,” John Marshall Principal Ashauna Short said. “This is the most humble and yet accomplished young lady that most will ever have the privilege of meeting. She is a quiet giant and leads with her actions and wonderful personality. This huge blessing and opportunity in the form of this scholarship is just the beginning of what the world will see from Joana Ayala.”
An accomplished scholar, Ayala intends to major in Business Finance at Indiana University, Butler University or Hanover College. We wish her the best and know she’ll represent John Marshall and IPS well as she heads to college!
