The Top 18 spellers from January’s IPS District Spelling Bee will test their skills once again, but this time against students from surrounding school districts during the Marion County Regional Spelling Bee.

Competition begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 10, at the IUPUI Campus Center Theater, 420 University Boulevard. Registration opens at 9 a.m.

The regional bee will include both spelling and vocabulary rounds, according to Kathy Herald, a K-6 English Language Arts (ELA) content specialist in IPS’ Curriculum and Instruction Department and the district’s spelling bee liaison.

The Top 3 winners of the IPS District Bee: Regan Shaar (Center for Inquiry School 84), Ashenafi Price (Center for Inquiry School 27) and Maris Kohn (Center for Inquiry School 27), respectively, will be joined by 15 other IPS students in the regional bee.

The winner of the regional bee will move on to the semifinals. The winner of the semifinals will move on to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in May.

Good luck to our scholars!
