The Indianapolis Public Schools Summer Food Service Program
has proven to be a success for our students, especially those attending summer
school, and is provided at no cost to our families!

IPS proudly offers all students meals throughout the school
year at no cost, and this year we rolled out a plan to provide breakfast and
lunch during the summer break as well. We are servicing 17 locations and
providing meals to over 10,000 students throughout the district on a weekly
basis.

Jane Cookson, IPS Food Services
Director, said the program has been “running smoothly.”

Principal Kirshawndra Davis of Riverside School 44 said,
“The kids love it! Aside from the meals, the students are given a place to go;
for many of them, this is their safe place.”

Davis indicated this kind of community support is something
Riverside regularly offers our families. For example, they have a food pantry
to support families in need. Davis is happy to offer an additional service like
the Summer Food Service Program that can make a difference in the lives of our
students every day.

With just a couple weeks left in the program, we want to
encourage our students to fuel up for the rest of their summer break at no
cost!
