As part of Indianapolis Public Schools’ commitment to
ensuring all students have access to a baseline level of the technology they
need to be successful, the IPS Information Technology Department is happy to
offer all IPS students (and staff) a complete version of the latest Microsoft
With more emphasis on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering
and Math) in schools, more assignments requiring computer skills and an increasing
focus on college and career readiness, getting students this free access to
programs like Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook they’ll be using throughout
their educational and professional lives is invaluable.
Moreover, it’s not just the price that is right (free!), but
it’s the level and ease of access that will mean so much to IPS students and
IPS Information Technology Officer Laura Larimer said, “This
initiative makes it so our students can access Office no matter the platform,
no matter where they are.”
Students and staff get:
- Access to
multiple licenses of Office on multiple platforms—Need to download Office
on a home PC, on a Mac at a relative’s house, or on a portable Android device,
iPad or even smartphone? This plan has you covered. With five licenses per
platform (that’s five downloads to a PC, five to a Mac, five to Android device,
etc.) available to everyone, students can download Office wherever they think
they’ll need it.
- Access to
Office Online—Are you doing work on a public computer at a library or a
community center? That’s taken care of, too! This plan allows students to
access the online versions of the Office tools and do their work without
downloading a thing.
storage on OneDrive—Don’t want to carry a thumb drive with your files
around all the time? You don’t need to! Students will now have unlimited
personal OneDrive cloud storage. They can save their files to OneDrive, change
locations and computers, access the cloud and their storage and pick right back
up where they left off!
For students who don’t always know where or on what device
they are next going to work on their projects, the district’s Microsoft Office
initiative offers both flexibility and portable storage that will prove helpful.
We’re proud to bring this level of technology access to our
families district-wide so that our students can work wherever and whenever they
need to and get experience with the tools and tech to help them succeed both
now and in the future!
