IPS Commits to Pay All Employees Through School Closures

Indianapolis Public Schools Superintendent Aleesia Johnson announces the district is committed to paying all active employees through the school closures due to COVID-19. Those closures are currently scheduled to last until May 1, under orders issued by the state, but may be extended.

“I’m proud of the work we’re doing to take care of our team members and am very appreciative to the IPS Board of School Commissioners for approving a resolution that gives the administration the flexibility to provide peace of mind for our employees during this uncertain time,” said Johnson. “We want to be a good employer and make sure we’re not creating financial hardships for our team members who work very hard to support our students and families.”

The district will pay all active certified and classified IPS staff, including support personnel, transportation workers and custodians, who work their regularly scheduled workdays at their normal rate. This entails remote work to the extent it’s possible depending on the role.
