At their February 24 Action Session, the Indianapolis Public Schools Board of School Commissioners approved a proposal to revise a bylaw in the meetings policy, amending the Board meeting schedule. The moves are meant to streamline the Board meeting process and make it more transparent and accessible for the community.

As a result of this revision, there will now be two public Board sessions per month:

  • One Agenda Review Session on the fourth Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. to review potential action items
  • One Action Session on the fourth Thursday at 6:00 p.m. to take final action on previously discussed items
Holidays, breaks and other schedule conflicts may push the meetings to a different week in some months. Additional Briefing Sessions may be held if the majority of the Board requests them. The agenda for the upcoming Board sessions will be posted for public viewing by Friday morning of the week preceding the meetings.

The public comments process has been streamlined, as well, to make it more effective and efficient for the community.

  • If someone wishes to speak to the Board on a general topic, they must sign up by Friday of the week preceding the Action Session. They will then receive time to speak at the end of the Action Session the following Thursday.
  • If someone wishes to speak to the Board regarding an agenda item, they have until noon the day of the Action Session to sign up. They will then have time to speak when that agenda item is dealt with during the Action Session.
