IPS Back to School Festival Provided for Students and Families

Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) gave away free food, supplies, clothing, and backpacks to more than 1800 students and 815 families to kick off the school year at the annual Back to School Festival.

The district hosted the event on July 12 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. at Northwest Middle School and Arlington Middle School.

“The annual festival brought IPS staff and our families together to renew relationships,” said IPS Supt. Dr. Aleesia Johnson. “Celebrating together rejuvenated our bonds, improves community life, and serves as a great way to prepare for what will be an incredibly positive school year.”

Each school-aged child who attended with a parent/guardian received a backpack with school supplies, important IPS back-to-school information, resources from local community partners, and other giveaways.

Immunizations and free haircuts were available at both sites.
