One of many talented social workers throughout the state,
our very own rock star, Megan Thomas from Cold Spring School was named the 2015
School Social Worker of the Year by the Indiana School Social Work Association
(INSSWA). We couldn’t be more proud to have such dedicated and talented staff
within our school district!

Thomas said, “I was surprised and am very proud to represent
Indiana School Social Workers and our mission of meeting the social and
emotional needs of students and their families.” Sitting among her peers, a
combination of school faculty, staff and members of the INSSWA, Thomas was excited
as she was awarded the honor.

Her passion for her field is apparent. “We (as social
workers) are Master level professionals with specific training in mental
health, social-emotional needs and in understanding family and community
systems.  We link students and their
families with community services to promote student success and remove academic
barriers.”

It is no surprise to learn that Thomas was a nominee in
years past. “School social work is my passion,” she said. Looking forward, she plans
to continue her efforts in advocating the role of social workers in providing
mental health support in schools.

We congratulate Megan Thomas on her honor, and on
representing her profession and our district so well!
