This year, the United Way of Central Indiana (UWCI) received an impressive 579 nominations for the Hubbard Life-Changing Teacher and School Leadership Awards. Selection of the recipients of the $25,000 prize are slated for this spring. Of the nominations, 474 represent teachers and 105 represent principals across 61 IPS schools and programs. By contrast, UWCI received 274 nominations last year when the honor was offered exclusively to teachers. This year, the Hubbard Awards were extended to principals as well. UWCI will select semi-finalists from among the many nominees, and a selection committee appointed by UWCI will choose winners to be announced this spring. Four outstanding teachers will be selected to receive $25,000 each, and up to six finalists will be awarded $1,000 each. Likewise, up to four phenomenal school principals will be awarded $25,000, and two finalists would receive $1,000 each.

For more than 20 years, Indianapolis residents Al and Kathy Hubbard have served as major supporters of the schools and programs within IPS. They have committed up to $400,000 annually, in partnership with UWCI, to honor exceptional teachers and principals within our district.
We’d like to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who nominated a life-changing teacher or principal. Good luck to each of the nominees!
