Herron Classical Schools enters agreement to purchase former Salvation Army building from The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis

Herron Classical Schools (Herron High School, Herron-Riverside High School, and Herron Preparatory Academy) has signed an agreement with The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis (TCM) to purchase the former Salvation Army building located adjacent to TCM’s campus as a permanent home for Herron Preparatory Academy.

Herron Preparatory Academy (Herron Prep) is the tuition-free K-8 school that opened in August 2021as part of the high-performing Herron Classical Schools network. Herron Prep currently serves 120 K-2nd graders and will add a grade level each year, beginning in the 2022-23 school year. The school is temporarily housed in modular units on the campus of Herron High School, located at 16th and Pennsylvania Streets.

HCS began looking for a permanent campus for the then-future Herron Prep in 2018, a process both complicated and delayed by the pandemic. The Salvation Army building is equidistant between both high school campuses, a location that best serves the school’s families and neighborhoods.
